Ealing is known as the 'Queen of the Suburbs' for its Victorian and Edwardian houses, but the borough also includes Acton's mix of period terraces and industrial land, Southall's interwar housing and large regeneration schemes along the Elizabeth line. Much of it lies on Thames river terrace gravels over London Clay, with the River Brent flood plain running through.
